This trek to Lo-Manthang will take you through high altitude desert country, you will climbing in and out of the huge sided valley of the Kali Gandaki, getting to have glimpes of the world’s deepest gorge which the Kali Gandaki runs through . Adding to that, through out the region you will be able to see innumerable ancient buddhist monastries all your way.

Arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu

Upon Arrival at Tribhuwan International Airport, You will be met and greeted with a traditional welcome by TravHill representatives and be transferred to your hotel in Kathmandu. Welcome drink followed by orientation along with the necessary documentation will be carried out by your guide. Evening is free to explore as own. Overnight stay at your hotel.

Sightseeing in Kathmandu

After breakfast your tour around Kathmandu will commence where you will be accompanied by a guide of your lingual preference. The tour will include a visit to the following places:
  • Bouddhanath: A major Buddhist stupa located at the north eastern outskirts of Kathmandu.
  • Pashupatinath: The most revered temple by Hindus in Nepal, the temple carries a significance of mystical proportions and is a site to many important life events of Hindus.
  • Swayambhunath: Sitting atop a hill, it is the most prominent Buddhist pilgrimage site in Nepal and is one of many sites of Nepal included in UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
  • Kathmandu Durbar Square: Durbar Square or the Palace Square is ancient courtyard the then Malla Kings of Kathmandu Valley which is abundant is breathtaking architecture.

Travel from Kathmandu to Pokhara

Pokhara can be reached in around 6 to 7 hours by road depending upon the season, or through flight in less than an hour. Situated in the lap of beautiful snowy mountains Pokhara is a beautiful city with lakes and caves.

Pokhara - Jomsom - Kagbeni Overnight in Tea house BLD

After breakfast, an early morning fligt from Pokhara will take you to to Jomsom(2720m) in just 20 mins. Jomsom is a major village on the Kaligandaki region which used to link the ancient trans-Himalayan salt road to Tibet, it is also the district headquarter of Mustang.

A 3 hrs trek from Jomsom, with Horses on its gradual path on Kaligandaki bed will take you to Ekley-bhatti village. From here an easy walk you will take you to Kagbeni (2810m) which is a very interesting village. On arrival, after check in the hotel, in afternoon you are free to stroll around the village.

Kagbeni - Chele(3050m) Overnight in Tea house BLD

Kagbeni is the entry point to upper Mustang. From Kagbeni, a challenging trail leads up to the east bank of Kali Gandaki and climbs over many ridges as it heads north. After, this in a 5-6 hours walking time, you will pass through an interesting cave, Gompa crossing place of Tangbe, Chhuksang and reach Chele.

Chele - Gilling (3570m) Overnight in Tea house

An ascending trail leads Samar, from Chele. This trail climbs above Samar to a ridge, and descends into a large gorge past a Chorten painted in white, red, black and yellow, all pigments made from local rock. From here with 6/7 hours of walking you can reach another beautiful valley with juniper trees and then to a place called Bhena and then to Giling.

Gilling – Charang, Overnight in Tea house BLD

At Geling, the trail climbs gently through field up the centre of the valley; it passes above Tama Gaon and its imposing Chorten. After crosses Tangmar Chu River, with a short climbing enters Charang. Total walking time takes about 5/6 hours.

Tsarang - Lo Mangthang (3810m) Overnight in Tea house BLD

After indulging in some act of reverence in the initial part of the day, we will then drive towards Drachen, which should take around two and half hours.

Explore Lo Manthang, Overnight in Tea house BLD

Lo Manthang is a very interesting place which is resident to only 150 houses and few Lama residedences. A blood drinking festival is held, which connects to similar kind of festival in tibet and ladhak regions.

Lomanthang to Yara & Explore Luri Gumba Overnight in Tea house BLD

Take same way back from Lo Manthang to Tsarang until Lo La pass and turn to left side. Follow the small path which is dragging along the barren Collins and steep rocky descending to the Die village. You will have to completely immerse in local food, because only that is available. You can either be on camping or on lodge trekking. You can hike up to visit Luri Gumba and Yara Ghara Gumba and take a day excursion. A day break for Luri Gumba is worthy because this is the very mighty, very pious, cave where the famous Bodisatwa padmasambhava (Guru Rimpoche) had meditated.

Yara to Tange, Overnight in Tea house BLD

A quick start, after a very early morning breakfast is required because you will have to cross on to pandey River, because if it is late the river will grow as the ice melts. Also, You will have to carry food because hot lunch is not available on the way, and you will have to take off shoes to cross the River. After crossing it generally ascends up and then gradual descending along brown barren lands to Tange.

Tange to Tetang, Overnight in Tea house BLD

Tange is a small beautiful village, after you cross the suspension bridge and catch a very interesting and challenging way which leads to steady up to the hill top call Pa, views of Mountain Tilicho, Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri, Tukuche, and Mustang Peak are visible from the way. The whole Walk is interesting with in jig-jack, one ridge to other ridge, hill to the other hill. After few hills, it descends quite down from Cha Cha La pass. Be extra careful ! if you are visiting in winter season as it gets a little slippery.

Tetang to Muktinath(3760m)` Overnight in Tea house BLD

Tetang to Muktinath is challenging in the beginning because it is steep up for a couple of hours but soon  it becomes an easy climb upwards. You will have to take enough of food and drinking water with yourself until you reach the holy town of Muktinath, passing through interesting villages of Zhong, and Thinggar.

Muktinath to Jomsom,(2720), Overnight in Tea house BLD

Early morning, before breakfast you can go to make tour around the Muktinath temple. The holy energies are most powerful in the morning. Muktinath Temple is equally important to both Hindus and Budhhists. You can see pilgrims lining up to enter the temple. Lord Bishnu is worsipped in the main temple and behind the temple there are 108 taps whose shower is considered holy and an important part of the pilgrimage. A flame lights up 24hours which lies about 100 meter away from the temple.

Jomsom - Pokhara – Kathmandu, Overnight in Hotel

From Jomsom, you will fly back to Pokhara Fly back to Pokhara in the morning & continue to fly to Kathmandu. You will stay overnight at the Hotel.

After such a challengeing and nature deep trek, you would definitely love a day of rest, or you can use it for a day shopping around Kathmandu City. You will be driven to farewell dinner in the evening with a cultural dance.

After Breakfast – free time till departure –  A representative from TravHill Dot Com will transfer to Airport for onward destination with sweet memories of Nepal. We will drop you to Kathmandu Airport 3 hours before your flight time.
