Langtang-Ganja La Trek

Langtang Valley Trek with Ganja La Pass takes you to amazing Langtang region and challenging Ganga La Pass (5,122m/16,80ft). Langtang is a narrow valley that is located just beneath of the main Langtang range to the north Tibetan border and lower range of snowy-peaks to the south. The excursion to Tserko Ri (5,000m/16,404ft) offers the magnificent view of Langtang Himalaya range. Kyanjin Gompa is the last permanent settlement of Lantang region from where the trail to Ganga La Pass (5,200m) branches off and continues down to Helambu.

The Langtang Valley with Gang La Pass trek is challenging but remarkable with astounding nature’s sight and Tibetan culture. Despite its proximity to Kathmandu, it remains protected and known as “well-kept secret” of Himalayan. The never ending company of rhododendron and bamboo forests, majestic waterfalls and glorious Himalaya makes this trek, one of diverse trek in Nepal. People living in Langtang region are believed to be migrated from Tibet centuries ago.

Arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu

Upon Arrival at Tribhuwan International Airport, You will be met and greeted with a traditional welcome by TravHill representatives and be transferred to your hotel in Kathmandu. Welcome drink followed by orientation along with the necessary documentation will be carried out by your guide. Evening is free to explore as own. Overnight stay at your hotel.

Sightseeing in Kathmandu

After breakfast your tour around Kathmandu will commence where you will be accompanied by a guide of your lingual preference. The tour will include a visit to the following places:
  • Boudhhanath: A major Buddhist stupa located at the north eastern outskirts of Kathmandu.
  • Pashupatinath: The most revered temple by Hindus in Nepal, the temple carries a significance of mystical proportions and is a site to many important life events of Hindus.
  • Kathmandu Durbar Square: Durbar Square or the Palace Square is ancient courtyard the then Malla Kings of Kathmandu Valley which is abundant is breathtaking architecture.

Kathmandu to Syabrubensi Drive (6-7 hours)

After having breakfast, we’ll drive to Sybrubensi, a village with huge stone houses, passing by Trishuli Bazaar and Dhunche. Along with the green hills, villages, and rivers, we will be looking at the ever-smiling snowcapped peaks. Driving on a bumpy and winding road, we reach Sybrubensi. Overnight at tented camp in Sybrubensi.

Sybrubensi to Lama Hotel 2324m (5/6 hours)

Our trek begins and proceeds along the course of Langtang River, and after an hour of ascending, we reach the new bridge. Passing through Domen, we reach Bamboo village where we will stop for lunch. The bamboo village hosts several guest houses, gardens, and vegetable fields. After a steep climb from Bamboo, we reach Rimche and proceed along the way to reach Lama Hotel. Overnight at tented camp in Lama Hotel.

Lama Hotel to Langtang 3330m (4/5 hours)

After having our breakfast at the hotel, we’ll leave Lama Hotel behind to reach Langtang valley through Ghodatabela. We’ll be embraced by the stunning landscape of dense rhododendron forest, the exquisite Langtang River, and glimpses of Mt Langtang Lirung (7234m). Ascending alongside Langtang River, we arrive in Langtang village. This is the largest settlement in the region mostly inhabited by Tamang ethnics with plentiful tea houses. Overnight at tented camp in Langtang.

Langtang to Kyanjin Gompa 3730m (2/3 hours)

We walk through vast grassland as we leave the Langtang valley past the largest Mani wall with inscribed prayers. After crossing Palpha Khola, we will have the glimpses of a spectacular icefall flowing from the Langtang range. We cross windy path through wooden bridges to finally reach Kyanjin Gompa, the most sacred monastery in the entire Langtang region. Overnight at tented camp in Kyanjin.

Acclimatization day/ Hiking to Tserko-Ri

This is the exploration day of the trek where we relax embracing the nature. We’ll explore Kyanjin Gompa and the local cheese factory as we explore the Kyanjin vicinity. We can also go for a hike to Tserko-Ri (4984m), from where we can enjoy the breathtaking view of the Langtang range along with other smaller peaks. Overnight at tented camp in Kyanjin.

Trek from Kyanjin Gompa to Ngengang 4000m (5/6 hours)

From Kyanjin Gompa, we’ll ascend through trails with sparse vegetation. We cross a suspension bridge over Langtang Khola and arrive at Chhana Lake before reaching Ngengang. After a tiring walk amid the bare hills, we’ll reach Ngengang where we’ll rest for the overnight.

Trek from Ngegang to Keldang 4270m via Ganja-La Pass 5130m (7/8 hours)

After breakfast, we’ll set out for our rigorous walk where we reach Keldang via Ganja La Pass (5130m), which is covered in snow throughout the year. Ngegang to Keldang is the hardest part of the trip as we are required to walk through the icy and slippery path. Upon crossing Ganja La Pass, we will descend on a steep trail to reach Keldang. Overnight at tented camp in Keldang.

Trek from Keldang to Dhukpa 4040m (7/8 hours)

After an early breakfast, we set out for our trek to Dhukpa from Keldang. The trail consists of many highs and lows, a descent towards the valley along the ridge, and an easy walk on the grasslands that takes us to Dhukpa. Overnight at tented camp in Dhukpa.

Trek from Dhukpa to Tarkegyang 2740m (6/7 hours)

Today, our trek descends in the beginning, and subsequently, we make a steep climb to reach Yangri Peak. Trekking along the pine and rhododendron forest, we reach Tarkegyang, a large Sherpa village. We can visit the old monastery called Gekye Gompa, in the evening, as we explore the village. Overnight at tented camp in Tarkegyang.

Trek from Tarkegyang to Sermanthang 2590m (5/6 hours)

Walk through Ghyangul and Chimighyang will take us to the beautiful village of Sermanthang which is very rich in culture as it is inhabited by the Sherpa community. The village serves equally satiating natural landscapes. You can spend the evening interacting with the locals. Overnight at tented camp in Sermanthang.

Trek from Sermanthang to Kakani 1996m (3/4 hours

We’ll have a healthy breakfast to kick start the day. We will descend through the ridge with a view of Melamchi Bazaar until we reach Chautara at the end of the ridge. Trekking through a forested path filled with small monasteries, we arrive in Kakani. We’ll be exploring the natural settings of Kakani where we’ll rest overnight.

Trek from Kakani to Melamchi Pul 870m (3/4 hours) and Drive back to Kathmandu (5/6 hours)

The trail descends through the Chir pine forests and meadows to reach Melamchi Pul. En route, we pass several small villages and temples before we get on our private car in Melamchi Pul. From Melamchi Pul, we’ll drive back to Kathmandu valley enjoying the countryside view. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you’ll be transferred to your hotel. Overnight at a 3-star hotel in Kathmandu.

Final Departure from Kathmandu

After Breakfast – free time till departure –  A representative from TravHill Dot Com will transfer to Airport for onward destination with sweet memories of Nepal. We will drop you to Kathmandu Airport 3 hours before your flight time.
